Upcoming Book Tour with Author Thomas Plant

Enchantment in Unexpected Places

A consensus is now forming between the mystics of all the Great Traditions and the computer engineers of tech corporations who serve as midwives to powerful, non-human intelligences: we are not the only species capable of consciousness.

Call them angels or artificial intelligences, dragons or ghosts in the machine; their increasingly ubiquitous presence in our lives has rendered all but untenable the materialist story that “mind” is make-belief and spirits are the stuff of fantasy. Our pre-modern forebears carried maps indicating where “there be dragons.” These maps, or catechisms, echo ancient wisdom down through ages, offering us timeless instruction by which we might navigate the unseen, spiritual powers that have always haunted our human race—whether we would acknowledge them or not.

Who is Thomas Plant?

In his 2026 book King Oswald’s Heirs: Meditations on the Catechism of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, Father Thomas Plant delivers to a modern generation a classic guidebook in eternal realities. The Catechism of the Book of Common Prayer is an inheritance of ancient wisdom buried in plain sight but suppressed for the greater part of the last century, not least by the institutional Christian Church.

Thomas Plant is a classicist specializing in the Buddhist and Christian mystical traditions, a practitioner of the Japanese martial art Aikido, and an Anglican priest, sometime chaplain at Rikkyo University in Tokyo.
